Zonta Club Frankfurt II Rhein-Main hosts event against Female Genital Mutilation

On 4 November, on behalf of the campaign Zonta Says NO, the Zonta Club Frankfurt II Rhein-Main organized the presentation of the awarded film “Desert Flower”, followed by a discussion with specialists of Female Genital Mutilation. The film is based on the autobiographial book of Waris Dirie and demonstrates the horrible practice of female genital mutilation.

President Renate von Koeller welcomed a full house as Zontians and guests from many clubs in their area were present to underline the importance of Zonta Says NO.

The club was able to reinforce the awareness of Female-Genital-Mutilation in public during this campaign joined by so many women and men.

The club also offers support the organization “FORWARD GERMANY” with Euro 4.000, which will allow mutilated women to undergo an operation in the first European Hospital “Waldfriede“ in the “Desert-Flower-Center“ in Berlin-Zehlendorf, which specializes in plastic genital operations.

Recently, the actions of the Zonta Club of Dunsborough were featured in their local press.

The club brought great visibility to the Zonta Says NO campaign and to awareness of violence against women through their annual White Elephant Stall at the local markets on 23 November. There, the club displayed the Zonta Says No banner (from D23 Conference) and put the ZSN bookmarks in all the books they sold.

Zonta Club of Münster draws public attention to symbolic display

The Zonta Club Münster organized a very special event to focus public attention on the international day of “violence against women“ on 25 November:

Two groups with 5 Zontians each moved through the center of the town on two different routes to the main library. All of them were dressed in black with black hats on their heads, decorated with orange ZONTA says NO-ribbons. The head of a group wore a white mask with closed mouth, symbolizing the speechlessness of the victims. The other Zontians behind her proclaimed statistics about violence against women. Further Zontians accompanied the group and distributed artistically designed cards with the emergency-hotlines in Münster to the public.

Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo sheds light on Violence Against Older Women

The Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo wanted to mark the 16 days in a way that might resonate with the community. Sixteen members of the Club are hoping to make a difference by speaking out on an aspect of violence against women and children that is particularly meaningful to them.
